The Open Beta Of Battlefield 6 has been completed and it has attracted millions of players across the world. One of these guns, M87A1 shotgun, attracted the attention of a lot of people as to how it functions in close and mid-range applications. Players noticed that its large amount of damage output, particularly when used with the Assault class, could destroy enemies so rapidly it sometimes made tactics more restrictive than on the weapons in some matches. These problems caused developers to turn to modifications prior to the full release of the game

Battlefield Studios confirmed the M87A1 will receive balance changes before launch. Key changes include:

  • Players will now need to land more pellet hits to secure a kill.
  • The shotgun’s effectiveness at medium ranges will be reduced, while close-range performance stays strong.
  • Developers noticed the problem fairly early in the beta, and a fix was already applied in an internal build by August 10.

These changes show that the studio is trying to keep gameplay fair and balanced across matches.

Wider Weapon Balance Updates

The M87A1 isn’t the only weapon being reviewed. Developers are also evaluating recoil and tap-fire mechanics across all weapons. Updates are meant to:

  • Encourage precision through tap- or burst-firing instead of just spraying.
  • Make gunplay feel more consistent and rewarding.
  • Ensure that combat becomes more skill-focused and strategic.

Time-to-kill (TTK) values were also mentioned by players, although developers haven’t confirmed if they will be adjusted. Over 20 million people joined the beta, which Oppenheimer called the biggest Battlefield beta ever. This massive player participation gave developers a lot of data to guide changes and balance refinements ahead of launch.

Launch Information

Battlefield 6 is set to release on October 10, 2025, just two days after the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 beta ends on October 8. The game will not be part of Xbox Game Pass, but the $100 edition is available through EA Play Pro, EA’s subscription service costing $17 per month. These updates show the developers are focused on creating a fairer and more skill-based gameplay experience, so players can expect more balanced combat right from the start.
