Bruna Brasil was initially not scheduled to headline in Shanghai. She was meant to feature in the prelims of UFC Fight Night on August 23, 2025, which had Johnny Walker vs Zhang Mingyang topping the bill. Subsequently, the UFC decided to break the Road to UFC into its own series on August 22, 2025, and they required a headlining bout that could headline the card. Brazil’s fight was moved, and all of a sudden she became the headliner.
She said she didn’t see that kind of switch:
“I didn’t expect to go to China… The fight was planned in the regular UFC card, but then they asked to move it to a special main event. I liked it because there will be more attention. From prelim,s now we are standing out more.”
Tickets were sold within ten minutes of going on sale, which indicated the extent to which fans were anticipating it. Brasil expressed her excitement:
“I was very excited. To walk in a packed arena with everybody shouting will be fantastic. It is not a usual chance, and a great moment for me to show what I can do.”
Looking for Redemption
Brazil enters the battle with pressure. She is returning after a last-minute loss to Wang Cong at UFC 312 (February 2025), and she had her UFC record stand at 2-3. And this Road to UFC main event is an opportunity to show that she does belong here.

Her rival is Shi Ming, Chinese, who won her UFC deal within the Road to UFC tournament and went on to register a tough head-kick knockout in Macau in November 2024. That win made her a fan favorite and earned her a bigger support base at home.
The Clash of Styles
Brazil understands Shi Ming’s flexibility and movement, but she remained a believer in her power:
“I don’t think she has fought anyone on my level. People say I look thin, but my kicks and my strikes are strong. When the first kick lands, she will feel it and may change her strategy. I am ready for that.”
Shi Ming also has an uncommon background. Outside the cage, she practices Traditional Chinese Medicine, healing by day and training and fighting by night. This combination renders her one of the unusual prospects UFC showcases from Asia.
Why This Main Event Matters
The headliner reveals UFC altering its strategy in Asia, uniting veteran fighters with fresh local monikers to earn more followers. Placing Brazil here, they blend international and regional power. For Brazil, not only a battle but an opportunity to bounce back after setbacks and advance her name again. For Shi Ming, his first time in such bright limelight, in the presence of his domestic fans.
What will unfold in Shanghai might determine not just the winner, but also provide UFC another solid stride in Asia and inscribe a significant page in the professional careers of both fighters.
