Indian pacers denied the series victory to the host with oustanding bowling display on the last day of the 5th Test, where India defeated England by just 6 runs in a thriller at Oval. The five-match Test series has been one of the best series played between India and England. England started the series with a Bazball-style win at Leeds; Indian captain Shubman Gill’s double century in the first inning and century in the second helped India bounce back. England bowlers put pressure on Indian batters in the 3rd Test to win it by 22 runs. The 4th Test ended with a draw thanks to solid resistance by India. The 5th Test played at the Oval was nothing short of a thriller, where India won by just 6 runs.

After trailing the 5-match Test series by 2-1. India enters the Oval with the momentum they had by saving the last match. The England captain won the toss and elected to bowl first. India had no Bumrah and Pant in the game, while England missed their captain.
While batting first, Yashasvi Jaiswal was sent back to the pavilion early by Atkinson, and Woakes bowled KL Rahul on just 14. Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, and Ravindra Jadeja also got out early, but Karun Nair held one end and smashed a half century on a bowling-friendly surface. After he got out in Tongue, India managed to put up a total of just 223 runs. Gus Atkinson took 5 wickets, while Josh Tongue got 3.
On the bowling-friendly surface, England responded with 247 runs and got the lead of 24 runs. Zak Crawley and Harry Brook scored half centuries. In the absence of Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj led the attack and took 4 wickets. Ravindra Jadeja also shines with 4 wickets.
In the third inning of the match, India lost KL Rahul early on for just 7 runs and Sai Sudharsan on 11. However, the prodigy, Yashasvi Jaiswal, finally came intoform and smashed an amazing century with 118 runs. Notably, the nightwatchman Akash Deep scored 66 runs off 94 balls. India’s lower order once again played well. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar hit half centuries to help India score 396 runs.
While chasing 373 runs, Ben Duckett gave a flying start to the team. The partnership of Joe Root and Harry Brook almost took the game away from India. Both the batters scored centuries. However, India did not give up and bounced back hard. Prasidh Krishna and Akash Deep removed the centurions. After their wickets, England’s batting order collapsed as Mohammed Siraj took a fifer and Prasidh Krishna took 4 wickets. India won the thriller by 6 runs and leveled the series 2-2.
