Popular leaker Dusk Golem has been discussing Resident Evil: Requiem, essentially Resident Evil 9, and it’s going a different way. The game reportedly will be introducing vehicle travel to more large open sections of Raccoon City, something that has not yet been attempted in the primary Resident Evil series. So traveling around the city might not be strictly on foot anymore. Developers also appear to be working towards ensuring these larger maps are optimized to run smoothly, but without losing all the necessary details.

In the combat, particularly for Leon’s sections, the game is to incorporate ideas from The Last of Us Part II. This will come in the form of animations that appear more lifelike, characters responding with what’s within their vicinity, and combat being more dynamic and less static.

Technical Steps Forward

Leaks also describe other enhancements:

  • Switching first-person to third-person at any time, so the team is essentially producing nearly two game types within one game.
  • Better lighting and shadows, more realistic-looking hair from Pragmata technology, and enemy AI that has the ability to alter behavior in play.
  • World and objects respond more, particularly during moments of gameplay from Grace Ashcroft, to make the player feel further inside the game.

These are sounding like Capcom trying to bring things closer to realism without losing the Resident Evil feel.

Story Closing an Era

According to Dusk Golem, Requiem is being designed as the final numbered game for the core Resident Evil story, concluding the long Umbrella and virus storylines. Beyond this point, they can begin creating different kinds of Resident Evil stories without the same tired arcs.

A major reveal that’s been mentioned is that Grace’s stalker, that tall hooded figure, is really her mom, Alyssa Ashcroft. This makes the threat more personal and closely connected to the infection enigma. Grace could be incredibly crucial for the virus plot as well.

Release and Reveal Dates

Capcom will initially provide gameplay for Resident Evil: Requiem at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19, 2025. The global release will be on February 27, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, all based on the RE Engine.

Closing Thoughts

If this leaks turn out to be true, Resident Evil: Requiem could become a true big shift for the series. But until the August announcement, all this is just leaks and needs to be considered as that.
